Intermar 2 – a continuation of our project

We are currently outlining a continuation of the Intermar project with a view to apply for funding from the Erasmus+ initiative. The objective of Intermar 2 will be to offer IC training for language teachers at the naval and maritime academies that expressed a wish to join the Intermar network at our final event in Lisbon. In addition, advanced IC competences will be extended to teachers who participated in the Intermar project.

The structure of the training will be multifaceted and will include distance training as well as intensive courses which bring together teaching staff from naval and maritime academies and their respective students.

The steps in the training process

1            Distance training: followed by introductory modules to IC (the use of existing resources and creation of specific modules).

2            Classroom training during the first phase of intensive courses for the students – two simultaneous courses to be held at the Escola Naval (Navy) and the Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (Merchant Marine) in Lisbon, Portugal in June/July 2015 (two weeks). During these early intensive courses, trainee teachers will attend teaching sessions conducted by experts.

3            Distance training 2: production of new scenarios for the courses, inspired by existing material (Intermar course)

4            Classroom training 2 during the second phase of intensive courses for the students – two simultaneous courses to be held at the Mircea cel Batran Naval Academy, Romania, where both civil and military seafarers are trained. Throughout this course trainee teachers will be responsible for teaching sessions during which they will be supervised by IC experts. Frequent meetings will be held to discuss observations made during the course.  This will facilitate collective discussion about the trainees’ experiences.
